This is Comic Book Club News for August 14, 2026.
Who Will Die In Avengers: Armageddon?
Thanks to a preview for November’s Avengers #1, we now know someone will die in Avengers: Armageddon. But whom???
In the preview, Luke Cage and Spider-Man are talking leading up to the New York mayoral election, with Spider-Man noting he has a bad feeling with “REDACTED dying, Cap almost dying, Tony REDACTED REDACTED, The Avengers disbanding.”
Now, Cap is in critical condition in the event series and his own title. And we know the Avengers will disband because a new team is forming in the new volume of the series. But what happens to Tony Stark? And who dies? On the latter, it seems to be one name, and a longer one. But also the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and more are all in the series, so could be anyone. Bucky, perhaps? Or Vision?
Whoever it is, we’ll know more by November.
The X-Files Returns To Comics:
The truth is out there, again, as The X-Files is coming back to comics from Dynamite.
Written by Joe Harris, who previously penned the IDW run of X-Files comics (aka the “official” Season 10 and Season 11 of the series), the book will also feature art by Riley Brown (who, just a quick note, is an entirely different comic book artist from Reilly Brown).
It’s an interesting time for fans of the franchise, as a director’s cut of the not-quite-beloved X-Files movie I Want To Believe is on Hulu, Ryan Coogler has directed a pilot for a reboot of the series, and most importantly, there’s a LEGO set. As for what will be involved in this upcoming comic, and where/when it will take place in continuity, while Dynamite doesn’t explicitly say, reading between the lines it seems likely this is a between-the-episodes type take like the current Supernatural comics.
The X-Files #1 will hit stores on a TBA date this Winter.
Marvel To Collect What The–?!:
You probably know about What If…? but what about What The–?! Well, get ready to find out all about it, as Marvel is prepping to release an omnibus.
Per 13th Dimension, the 1,072 page hardcover will collect 26 issues of the humor publication from the ’80s and ’90s which featured everything from Doctor Deranged and Man-Thang, as well as art from Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, and even Steve Ditko.
The book will cost $125, and hit stores on March 23, 2027, so you can see how well all this “humor” aged by then.
