Marvel Simplifies Midnight Universe Variant Cover Program, Adds More Variant Covers

Unlike previous releases which have had a confusing number of variant covers, Marvel’s Midnight Universe will have a strictly regimented release of five covers, clearly labeled A-E. Also, they will have other variant covers, some of which you can see below!

…Am I being needlessly snarky here? Perhaps? But five covers is already, in my personal opinion, a lot of covers. And if you add more covers on top of that, for the regular consumer wandering into a store it doesn’t really matter whether the retailer says “oh but the five covers including the main cover and four variants are strictly regimented and labeled by Marvel every issue, the other covers are just fun bonuses.” Because by that point, you’ve already wandered out of the store and decided to take up Pickleball or something.

I’m not a comic book publisher, I’m just some guy on the internet! But if I was a sentient Marvel Comics and said, per press release, “Bringing greater clarity and consistency to the variant cover collecting experience, the Midnight line will debut all-new ongoing variant cover programs,” I would stick with that? I think? Particularly for the first issue of the book?

Anyway, whatever, who cares. Before you head out for a Pickleball match, here are the newly revealed covers for the first issues of the Midnight books, which will all hit stores on October 7, 2026:

·       MIDNIGHT SPIDER-MAN COVER B BY RYAN STEGMAN, a MIDNIGHT BLOODBATH VARIANT, blood-soaked covers showcasing the terror of the Midnight Universe.

·       MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 COVER D BY E.M. GIST, a MIDNIGHT HORROR HOMAGE VARIANT, chilling re-creations of iconic horror images.

·       MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 COVER I BY ROD REIS, an additional variant cover that will also be available as a virgin variant (Cover J).

·       MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 COVER H BY ALESSANDRO CAPPUCCIO, an additional variant cover spotlighting the Midnight versions of Magneto, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver.

·       MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 AND MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 COVERS E BY JEEHYUNG LEE, prestige painted covers of the haunting Midnight Universe.
