‘The X-Files’ Returns With New Comic From Dynamite

The truth is out there, again, as The X-Files is coming back to comics from Dynamite.

Written by Joe Harris, who previously penned the IDW run of X-Files comics (aka the “official” Season 10 and Season 11 of the series), the book will also feature art by Riley Brown (who, just a quick note, is an entirely different comic book artist from Reilly Brown).

“The X-Files has always been sacred to me,” said Harris via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “From my own early TV fandom on Friday and Sunday nights to getting to work on one of the greatest supernatural thriller/science fiction franchises in history, the further adventures of Agents Mulder and Scully have occupied a very special place in my head and career. I am beyond honored to write them and I am absolutely over the moon to work with Dynamite on this new series.”

Added Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci, “The X-Files is the next jewel in the crown for us at Dynamite in working with Disney and entering 20th Century territories, hot on the heels of Kelly Thompson’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel epic. Multiple generations have loved following the cases of Mulder and Scully, and they translate absolutely perfectly to the format and serialized nature of comic books. We’re working to make sure longtime fans and newcomers will love the new stories, and can’t wait to share more!”

It’s an interesting time for fans of the franchise, as a director’s cut of the not-quite-beloved X-Files movie I Want To Believe will hit Hulu tomorrow (August 14), Ryan Coogler has directed a pilot for a reboot of the series, and most importantly, there’s a LEGO set. As for what will be involved in this upcoming comic, and where/when it will take place in continuity, while Dynamite doesn’t explicitly say, reading between the lines it seems likely this is a between-the-episodes type take like the current Supernatural comics.

The X-Files #1 will hit stores on a TBA date this Winter. You can check out a cover and some art of Mulder and Scully, the two agents at the center of the X-Files, below.
