Marvel launches Compact Comics.

DC celebrates 100 years of Joe Kubert.

Marvel to publish One World Under Doom omnibus.

This is Comic Book Club News for August 10, 2026.

Marvel Launches Compact Comics Line:

After doing solid business with the Marvel Premier Collection, but not quite cracking the same sales levels as DC’s Compact Comics… Marvel is making Compact Comics.

The first out of the gate was the Spider-Man: Brand New Day collection including a few arcs from the comic book run before the movie hit theaters. Unlike the Premier Collections, which are slightly larger than Compact Comics, and more expensive at $14.99, the Brand New Day anthology was manga-digest sized, and $9.99.

Well, clearly it worked as the publisher has announced six new collections at the size and price point are coming in 2027. First up on March 16 is Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man, collecting Brian Michael Bendis’s stories from Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, as well as the lead up issues to the debut of Miles. The same day Spider-Gwen: The Radioactive Spider-Woman will hit, collecting the original Spider-Gwen stories from 2015. Both seem likely to be timed to the June 17, 2027 release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Then Ultimate Spider-Man and The Ultimates Year One will both hit on April 13, 2027, followed by Ultimate Black Panther and Ultimate X-Men Year One in June. While this is clearly a smart move — and implies that second volumes are likely coming — those who like the slightly higher end Premier format, don’t worry: more editions in that line are coming in 2027, as well.

DC Celebrates 100 Years Of Joe Kubert:

DC Comics is celebrating iconic artist Joe Kubert on what would have been his 100th birthday with a special facsimile edition, a cover collection, and a focus on Sgt. Rock.

The three announced projects kick off with DC Special #5 Facsimile Edition, which includes a very cool variant cover: a jam session featuring members of the Kubert family and Kubert School alumni all paying tribute to Kubert’s original cover to the issue. Those include: Adam Kubert, Andy Kubert, Emma Kubert, Jan Duursema, Tom Mandrake, Ron Wagner, Amanda Conner, Rick Veitch, Stephen R. Bissette, Lee Weeks, Ron Randall, Steve Lieber, and colorist Brad Anderson.

The same day — September 16 — DC will also release Joe Kubert: 100 Years – A Life in Covers #1, which features — what else — iconic covers by Kubert, as well as a foreword by his granddaughter, DC group editor Katie Kubert. And the day before that, DC will release Sgt. Rock by Joe Kubert: Deluxe Edition, a fully remastered look at one of Kubert’s greatest creations.

Marvel To Publish One World Under Doom Omnibus:

One World Under Doom is getting one gigantic omnibus from Marvel.

Per ICv2, the 2025 event series will get a massive, 1,536 page collection featuring all nine issues of the main series by Ryan North and R.B. Silva, which finds Doctor Doom taking over the world. And it will also seemingly collect all of the other tie-in issues, spin-off miniseries and one-shots, leading all the way up to the epilogue in The Will of Doom #1.

Alongside the main cover by Ben Harvey, the book will also feature a direct market exclusive by R.B. Silva, and hit stores on March 9, 2027.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And when will DC finally pay tribute to Q*bert? You know, the orange guy with the honker nose who jumps blocks in that old video game?
