Marvel’s DNX Teases Big Character Death:

Marvel’s DNX event mixing up the X-Men and Fantastic Four doesn’t kick off until September, but the publisher is already teasing the final issue — and a big character death.

In the event, the two teams take on 3K, a villainous group of mutants led by an evil version of The Beast named The Chairman. And in DNX #5, Cyclops and The Chairman fight each other… To the death!

So will Marvel kill off one or the other? Though technically we shouldn’t find out until DNX #5 hits on November 18, Marvel is also teasing they’ll reveal more in the next few weeks — and will announce an all-new solo series spinning out of the event.

Image Comics Collects Two Wildstorm Titles:

Image Comics is releasing two new collections of Wildstorm titles, and one of them is by persona non grata Warren Ellis.

Let’s start with the positive, first. Joe Casey and Ashley Wood’s dystopian superhero story Automatic Kafka will be collected in a trade paperback for the first time, focusing on a former android member of a superhero team wandering the wasteland. The 224 page book will hit comic book stores on November, with Casey calling it, “my biggest swing in comic books at that time, and laid the foundation for a lot of my work that came after.”

…And then there’s the other book, Ocean by Warren Ellis and Chris Sprouse. Originally published in 2005, it was later collected by Vertigo in 2015, and now again by Image Comics. The issue here is that Ellis was accused by multiple people of grooming and sexual coercion, and according to the 60 members of So Many Of Us, an organization Ellis proclaimed he was working with to make amends, he has taken none of the steps laid out, at least as of 2023.

In 2021, Image Comics cut ties with Ellis after the accusations, though just last year published a facsimile of his book, Fell. Image, when asked about the seeming change of policy, offered “no comment.”

Spider-Man Teams Up With US Open:

In yet another corporate team-up from Marvel Comics, Spider-Man will — for the third year in a row — appear in a custom comic for the US Open.

Built around the theme of “Celebrating Our New York Story,” the 40,000 copies of the comic follow Spider-Man as he tracks Scorpion over five boroughs, on his way to the US Open. The comics will be given out free during “US Open Fan Week to those fans who scan their Fan Access Pass at the giveaway tent inside the main entrance.”

However, there are also five limited edition covers, limited to 1,000 copies each, spotlighting each of NYC’s five boroughs and given to the first 1,000 fans each day between August 24 through 28.
