This is Comic Book Club News for August 6, 2026.
Deadman Expands From Six Issues To 12:
Originally announced as a six-issue limited series, DC Comics‘s The Deadman will now extend its afterlife to 12 issues.
Said writer W. Maxwell Prince via a press release provided to Comic Book Club, “The response to our Deadman story has been absolutely spirit-lifting.We’re having so much fun giving new life to Boston Brand and his purgatorial world…and we’re not ready to give up the ghost just yet. Here’s to 6 more issues of monsters, mantras, and mystic math!”
Featuring art by Martín Morazzo, colors from Chris O’Halloran, and letters by Good Ol’ Neon, The Deadman has reinvented the character of Boston Brand, a sort-of ghost able to inhabit human bodies, with the team’s now iconic inventiveness from titles like Ice Cream Man at Image Comics and Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum for DC.
The Deadman #3 is now in stores.
Micronauts Join Energon Universe:
The Energon Universe is expanding at a rapid pace; first with the introduction of ROM in the pages of Void Rivals. And now, in M.A.S.K. #3 from Skybound and Image Comics — spoilers past this point — it’s time to welcome the Micronauts. Or at least, villain Baron Karza (with more TBD).
“The record-setting launch of M.A.S.K. shocked and delighted fans, and we’re continuing the exciting momentum with the reprint of this monumental third issue,” said Executive Editor Ben Abernathy via press release. “With the introduction of the mysterious Baron Karza, who knows what could happen next!”
In the issue, we discover that Miles Mayhem, the seeming villain of the series, is actually working for the Micronauts’ big baddie Baron Karza. How, and why — and whether more Micronauts characters will appear — is TBA. It’s interesting not just for bringing in another Hasbro property, but also because Marvel had the license to the characters as recently as 2023, and was printing collections of their old adventures. The assumption at the time was the introduction of the Micronauts in the MCU, which seemed well-timed to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
…But I guess something changed, and now at least one of the characters is in the Energon Universe, and potentially more.
James Tynion IV Asks For Bodega Money:
James Tynion IV needs money for the BODEGA. And no, not for a Bacon, Egg and Cheese. For his comics non-profit, the Brooklyn Organization Dedicated to the Endurance of the Graphic Arts, aka BODEGA.
As noted by Tynion in his newsletter, he’s launching the Brooklyn Expo of Comics this November, an indie comics con, and as this is the first of many planned events he’s hoping folks can chip in $5 to help get the organization off the ground. While more traditional fundraisers will follow, this is his first plea for support, and he’s hoping people can spread the word about heading to bodegacomics.org/donate.
