DC Announces Absolute Black Canary One Shot:
In Absolute Green Arrow #6, writer Pornsak Pitcheshote and artist Rafael Albuquerque will reveal the identity of the Green Arrow killer. And while the series has been extended another six issues, before the second arc kicks off, get ready for Absolute Black Canary.
As announced at DC Comics’s Absolute Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the one shot will be written by Pitcheshote with art by Belén Ortega, and focus on Dinah Lance, aka a former MMA fighter known as the Black Canary. Green Arrow will then continue with issues seven through 12, picking up where the reveal of Green Arrow — and the one-shot — leave off.
While we don’t have much more info on the one-shot at the moment other than that, this is similar to what DC is doing with Absolute Catwoman, where the first arc of the book will be “interrupted” for a month by Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand, before resuming its regular run. And it essentially functions as a fill-in, allowing the main title to stay on schedule while giving more room for the backstory of an important character to the series.
Absolute Black Canary #1 will hit stores in January, 2027.
IDW’s Event Horizon Trilogy Comes To An End:
As announced by IDW at San Diego Comic-Con, Christian Ward will make Heaven a place on Earth. Or Space. Or maybe Hell? As he brings his critically acclaimed Event Horizon trilogy to a close with Event Horizon: Pandemonium.
Also featuring art by Hernán González, the series will follow up on the prequel Dark Descent, and the sequel series Inferno, which takes place a century or so after the original, cult classic movie.
Said Ward via press release, “PANDEMONIUM was always the end goal. Myself and the incredible artist Hernán González are taking you even deeper into the Chaos Realm. Event Horizon will never be the same very again. All roads have been leading us here… to Heaven!”
Event Horizon: Pandemonium #1 will hit stores in December.
Marvel’s Midnight Reveals Release Schedule:
Marvel has announced the release schedule for their new horror-infused Midnight Universe, including Midnight X-Men, Midnight Spider-Man, and Midnight Fantastic Four. And it’s pretty unique.
While the initial plan was to release the Midnight Universe titles monthly, starting in August with X-Men, the plan shifted to all three hitting stores as the only releases from Marvel on October 7, 2026. While we expect that the second issues will be accompanied by other periodicals in November, again, all three issues will be released simultaneously, on November 18, and the same in December.
Past that point, the issues will shift to one a week in 2027. It’s a curious strategy but pairs with the also rigid variant cover program, as all Midnight titles will sport the same five covers (with potential for more), which, per Marvel, brings “greater consistency and clarity to the variant cover collecting experience.”
Will the strategy pay off? We’ll find out in October.
