Samantha Strong… No more! As announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Patrick Horvath’s hit IDW series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees will come to a close with a third and final volume, The Summer and the Fall.
Following up on the devastating events of the sequel Rite of Spring, the series will jump forward a decade to 2004, as, per The Hollywood Reporter, “small-town America has died and the country is seemingly locked into a forever war in the Middle East. Strong, once the most infamous and most wanted person in the country, had faded into obscurity. She’s now in her 60s and attempting to live a quiet life off the grid in the desert. She kills when the opportunity presents itself, but she spends her time surviving. But it’s only a matter of time until she’s recognized.”
Beneath the Trees has been a huge hit for IDW, selling over 400,000 copies and leading to spinoffs like an upcoming Halloween anthology by Horvath and other horror superstars. An Artist’s Edition of the first series will go on sale tomorrow (July 28) in stores, and there’s a planned Samantha Strong (the serial killer bear at the heart of the story) plushie, as well. Heck, she even crossed universes, fighting Lex Luthor in DC K.O.: Boss Battle.
Added Horvath, “Samantha Strong now finds herself having to answer for all of her deeds to a world that has become obsessed with true crime, global terrorism, and the slippery notion of righteous violence. It might all lead to a major change for her, or this might just be the end of the road.”
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: The Summer and the Fall #1 hits stores in February, 2027. Check out the first cover, below.
