Mary Jane Ditches Venom And Starts A Production Company In ‘Friendly Neighborhood Mary Jane’

Mary Jane, Mary Jane. Does whatever a human can. Produces stuff, hangs with friends. But super stuff, it never ends. Look out! As just announced at San Diego Comic-Con at Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel, here comes Friendly Neighborhood Mary Jane.

…Or less musically, in the wake of the Queen in Black crossover, Mary Jane is out of the Venom suit, and Eddie Brock is back in black. So where does that leave Spider-Man’s sometimes girlfriend? In her own five-issue series by Ashley Allen and Phil Noto.

“I’m so excited to be taking Mary Jane on this next chapter!” said Allen via press release. “MJ has always understood people in a way few can, and that’s what makes this series so exciting to write. While we hinted at what’s coming in FACE IT, TIGER, MJ’s ready to plot her own story … even if it’s from behind the camera. But entertainment’s not all it’s cracked up to be, and MJ’s storytelling ambitions might put her in the direct path of someone who views her empathy as a threat to their plans.”

While it seems like Mary Jane is powerless, there’s potentially a twist here as the synopsis teases a “top secret” gift from Venom. Is it a copy of Top Secret on VHS? You’ll just have to read to find out.
