Eddie Brock Is Back In Black In New ‘Venom’ #1 From Marvel

Everything old is new again, as the saying doesn’t go. And as revealed at the Marvel Next Big Thing panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Mary Jane Watson is so out of the Venom symbiote after the end of the Queen in Black crossover, and Eddie Brock is back (in black).

Not only will Eddie be back, but the title is rebooting with a new number one issue — and a new creative team: writer Charles Soule and artist Tommaso Bianchi. Previously, Soule wrote Brock in the Eddie Brock: Carnage series, which found Brock bonded to the more murderous symbiote. Though that title was canceled, he contributed to the Death Spiral event which brought together Venom, Spider-Man, and Carnage, alongside current Venom writer Al Ewing.

“I am so thrilled to be relaunching VENOM with an all-new #1 this October with art by Tommaso Bianchi, who is doing astonishing work,” said Soule via press release. “Every panel leaps off the page into your eyeballs, it takes up room, it nests in your mind, which is a good thing in this case. We are doing new things with the character that have not been done before. It is thrilling, it is fast-paced, and perhaps a bit provocative. Venom is the best. Venom rules. Venom. Venom. Venom.”

Where this leaves Mary Jane? Well, the synopsis for September 30’s Queen In Black #5 (the final issue of the event series) seems pretty ominous:

OH, THE HUMANITY! In the war between Light and Dark, the winner’s taken their prize… but is it Hela or Knull who’s ascended to the Throne Of All? Either way, the only thing standing between them and all life on Earth is… the VENOMWORLD! It’s the ultimate symbiote battle — and for Mary Jane Watson, it’s the last stand!

Hm, I assume the Peter Parker/Mary Jane shippers will just let it go if she’s dead, right? (Just kidding, she’s fine and becoming a Producer in her own five issue series.)

Eddie Brock and Venom are reunited — and it feels so good! After years apart, once again THEY ARE VENOM, and Eddie is not going to let this opportunity go to waste. He is determined to be the ultimate host for the symbiote and be the hero he knows he can be…and he’s not going to let any other super heroes say otherwise!
