San Diego Comic-Con is heating up with an announcement that was teased a few months back, and now is very, very real: Absolute Batman, and regular ol’ Batman will solve the same crime in two universes in the DC Comics one-shot Batman of Two Worlds.
“This Batman Day (September 19th), go pick up the BATMAN OF TWO WORLDS one-shot! Two stories, one crime as told by me & @nickderington.bsky.social and Matt Fraction & @javifernandez.bsky.social!” Snyder wrote on BlueSky.
To be 100% clear, AbsBat will not be meeting RegsBat. Instead, the idea here is that Scott Snyder and Nick Derington, with colors by Frank Martin and Tom Napolitano; and Matt Fraction and Javier Fernández, with colors by Tomeu Morey and letters by Clayton Cowles, present the same crime to both versions, and readers can see how their methods diverge.
“You have two different looks at Batman,” said Fraction via a press release from DC. “The moral structures, the ethical structures, the political structures. A chance to put them side by side and see the similarities and differences.”
Added Snyder, “This is just such a unique moment. The mission was to show what’s special about each interpretation. The two stories are both about Batman’s form of justice.”
Both stories will be in one issue that will hit stores on Batman Day, aka September 19, the anniversary of the publication of the first Batman comic. And as for a proper crossover between the two universes? Well, it’s coming… But not quite yet.
