After a bit of confusion over the cover to June’s Supergirl #14 seemed to imply the classic DC Comics character Matrix was back, but in fact Matrix was not back… Well, Matrix is back in the pages of Supergirl #18.
“I’m not at SDCC (what else is new) and there are no me-related special announcements happening there so I’m doing my own: an unauthorized release of my Supergirl #18 cover,” Campbell posted on BlueSky.
In the cover for the (presumably) October debuting issue, we can see Supergirl standing and looking at the protoplasmic character introduced in 1988’s Superman #16. The big deal here is that, for a time, Matrix took on the identity of Supergirl. Several continuities later, how will Matrix interact with the now Supergirl? We’ll have to wait until the Superman family focused Kingdom of Zod event concludes in September to find out.
In addition to Matrix, Supergirl #18 also introduces a character named Wombat. Will this potential new superhero leave cube-shaped poop behind them (it’s a real fact, look it up)? Stay tuned.
For now, check out the cover (more info we’ll likely be announced once DC releases their October solicits) below:
