‘Absolute Green Arrow’ Hits Bullseye, Run Extended To 12 Issues

Absolute Green Arrow has hit the target with readers, and now DC Comics is extending the run of the series from a planned six issues, all the way to 12 (and maybe beyond).

“No matter how many people talked about it, I wasn’t prepared to believe it. I mean, I wasn’t prepared to believe this book would even exist,” writer Pornsak Pitcheshote wrote in an Instagram post announcing the extension, because back when I was a #dccomics employee, the company felt nowhere near bold enough to publish something like this.

“But that’s a testament to how successful #dcabsoluteuniverse is under @ssnyder1835 ‘s leadership and the care of our amazing editors. And honestly, just how bold DC right now is willing to be in general. In any event, @rafaelalbuquerque81 & I couldn’t be more excited to keep working with @mmaiolo, @jeffodman, @holymotherofzelda & @sabrinafutch on more #absolutegreenarrow!

“And of course, thanks to all the amazing readers and fans who’ve embraced this book in a way I could have never have guessed. It means more than you know. Much more to come from here…”

If you haven’t been keeping up with the series written by Pitcheshote with art by Rafael Albuquerque (and you can listen to our podcast interview with them for more), the book picks up in the aftermath of Oliver Queen’s murder, with a mysterious, masked bowman slaughtering the billionaires responsible for his death. Enter Dinah Lance, the Black Canary, an MMA fighter turned bodyguard, who gets sucked into the mysterious of this Green Arrow killer, as well as why there might have been a lot more going on with Oliver Queen than anyone knew.

What will be most interesting to see here is if the mystery itself will be extended… When we talked to Pitcheshote, he explained their goal was to make the first six issues feel like a satisfying story if they didn’t get picked up, so likely Green Arrow’s identity will be revealed before then. But hey, plans change, and perhaps the man — or woman — behind the mask will, too. My guess? It’s Luigi Mangione. I’m probably wrong, though.
