Daniel Warren Johnson’s Beta Ray Bill Gets Artist’s Edition:
Daniel Warren Johnson’s lauded Marvel miniseries Beta Ray Bill is getting the Artist’s Edition treatment.
Released by Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing in partnership with Skybound, the 144 page, 12″ x 17″ book will collect all the issues of the original series, in black and white but scanned in color so you can see the ink gradients, blue pencil and raw art Johnson originally put down on the page.
The book will also include a new introduction by Walt Simonson, creator of Beta Ray Bill, no doubt ripping into Johnson for destroying his vision of the character. Just kidding.
Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson Artist’s Edition hits comic book stores on February 3, 2027.
The Dark Knight: Recreated Is A Jam Session Fever Dream:
This year is the 40th anniversary of The Dark Knight Returns, and to celebrate Felix Comic Arts has created a wild, limited edition project: The Dark Knight Recreated.
As posted on the Felix Comic Art social accounts (via Bleeding Cool), the hardcover recreates individual pages from Dark Knight Returns, all by a diferent artist. That lineup includes Nick Dragotta, Daniel Warren Johnson, Chris Burnham, Paul Pope, Jock, with Joelle Jones and Yuko Shimizu as the only two women out of 50 creators chosen for the project.
But anyway, it’s for a good cause, as it will support the lufamilyfund.org which raises funds to fight colorectal cancer, and will be up for auction at San Diego Comic-Con.
Comic Book Sales Up In 2026:
Comic book and graphic novel sales are way up in the first quarter of 2026, per ICv2.
The new report is based on only 125 stores, so is more a snapshot of the industry. However, sales were up 23% in the first three months of the year, with graphic novels given a slight edge over single issue comics. And this is on top of the growth seen last year, which itself was up from 2024.
The outlet attributes a good chunk of this growth to — what else — DC’s Absolute Universe line, with the potential difference between last year and this year being that the trade collections of the books were available after a comparable period in 2025; hence a 26% growth in graphic novel sales.
All in all, this is great news for the comics industry, and without checking any history books I can confidently say this upward trend will continue forever.
