This is Comic Book Club News for June 30, 2026.
Absolute Batman #1 Goes For Big Money On eBay:
It’s not like Absolute Batman #1 is a hard comic to get, with 11 printings and at least 500,000 copies sold — if not more. But original copies of the first printing are still going for huge numbers on auction sites, particularly in light of last week’s announcement about an Absolute Batman cartoon in development.
Per Bleeding Cool, copies are going for anywhere from $300 for a raw copy with no frills, to a slabbed, graded and signed copy — by writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Dragotta — for $1100. In fact, a cursory check of my own shows copies regularly going for $300 or more, so this isn’t an isolated big spender.
Given there’s no timeline for the Absolute Batman cartoon, let alone a network, will the prices for the comic go even higher?
Oni Press To Publish Arabic Middle-Grade Book:
And you ready to holler for Yalla!? No, I couldn’t come up with a better rhyme, leave me alone. The new middle grade Arabic graphic novel will hit stores next year.
Coming from writer Ameen D.B. and artist Ismael Hernández, the book will put “readers in an immigrant’s shoes to teach literacy and empathy in unique ways.”
Focusing on “Pada, who recently immigrated to a strange new place with her parents and little brother,” the book will follow her on adventures making friends, learning the language, and fighting monsters. The book is not in English, but is geared towards English readers who want to learn Arabic.
Yalla! hits stores on June 9, 2027.
Christopher Priest Turns 65 Years Old Today:
Happy birthday to Christopher Priest! The legendary comic book writer turns 65 today, so let’s take a look back through some of his accomplishments.
After starting as an intern at Marvel Comics in 1978, he worked his way up to editor, and worked as assistant editor to Larry Hama on Conan books. He debuted as a writer in 1983 on The Falcon, as well as working on Power Man and Iron Fist.
At DC, he wrote Green Lantern, Action Comics and more, later helping found Milestone Media, co-creating Static, and more. He’s written hundreds of comics including, currently, Vampirella for Dynamite, and hopefully will continue for another 65 years.
