Absolute Batgirl revealed.
X-Men United canceled with issue 10?
Mike Mignola goes back to Hell.
This is Comic Book Club News for June 16, 2026.
Absolute Batgirl Revealed:
Absolute Batgirl has been revealed. Except she’s not Batgirl, she’s… The Bat.
The news was a surprise drop by Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder during a panel at this past weekend’s Heroes Con in Charlotte, where the cover homaging Absolute Batman #1 was shown off, depicting Barbara Gordon in her new costume on the cover of Absolute Batman #24.
Alongside the bat ears and the weird tendrils cape Absolute Batman sports, she’ll also be wearing the slain Jim Gordon’s coat, and a bit of yellow in an homage to Batgirl’s costume in the mainline universe. While low-res looks leaked online, artist Nick Dragotta posted a higher resolution look at the cover on his Instagram, noting that even he was surprised they revealed the look at the con.
Barbara is also using guns — though a modified shotgun that shoots non-lethal rounds and electrical bolts that Batman took from Alfred in the first issue of the series. As for what else is going on? You’ll find out when Absolute Batman #24 hits stores this September.
X-Men United Canceled With Issue 10?:
Marvel’s X-Men United, which was initially solicited as an ongoing series, may now be a 10 issue limited series.
The news comes via the listing for the July 1, 2026 debuting X-Men United #5 on Amazon, which — versus issue #4 — is noted as #5 of 10. And while this may be disappointing for fans, it seems to be par for the course for Marvel — and the X-Men line in particular, which has made a habit of allowing series to run 10 issues so they can be collected in two, five-issue trades.
X-Men United, written by Eve L. Ewing, was meant to be the successor to Exceptional X-Men, which ran for 13 issues, and the ongoing companion to X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. Versus the team-based approach of those two titles, X-Men United returned to the school basis of the franchise, with the twist that it was a school… Of the mind.
We’ve reached out to Marvel to confirm the cancellation, but did not hear back by recording time.
Mike Mignola Returns To Hellboy In Hell:
Mike Mignola is about to head back to Hell for his final Friday, as the creator will release a two-issue event, Hellboy in Hell: Nothing but Blood.
The reason for returning? Artist Cyrille Pomès, who Mignola tailored the “half an idea” he had for a story around, in which Hellboy sees “a young woman being chased by winged beasts in the midst of an uprising against Hell’s most powerful demons, he steps in to save her, but nothing – and no one – are what they seem to be. “
Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood #1 hits stores on October 7, 2026.
