Barry Windsor-Smith’s ‘Weapon X’ To Get Black And White Reprint From Dark Horse

Here’s something a little confusing: Dark Horse Comics has a new line of Marvel Comics. Weird, right? Well, weird it may be, but it’s starting off with something pretty iconic: Marvel Black & White: Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X, which, per the name, will present Windsor-Smith’s classic Wolverine origin story in definitive black and white.

Set alongside historical commentary and a new essay from Chris Ryall and John Lind, the new edition will also feature archival materials, and additional work from Windsor-Smith, specifically Uncanny X-Men #205 and #214.

Not mentioned in Dark Horse’s press release about this, the color was actually a big deal for the original printing of Weapon X — and subsequent printings. Windsor-Smith actually designed the colors for the story to match the newsprint Marvel used at the time. Trade editions since then have normally oversaturated the color, presenting a very different look than what the artist intended.

Anywho, now there are no colors, so no problem. Marvel Black & White: Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X will hit stores on November 24, 2026.
