Earlier today we reported on various purchasers of M.A.S.K. #1 from Skybound and Image Comics getting surprised when their blind bag featured not M.A.S.K. #1 but ROM #1. And now it’s official, as Skybound has revealed the three secret comics inside the blind bags.
First, let’s talk ROM #1 by Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici. The co-creators of Energon Universe title Void Rivals team up once again to bring a one-shot (not an ongoing series) featuring the Space Knight that has bounced around from Marvel to IDW and now Skybound.
“Nothing is more exciting to me than an unexpected comic drop! Getting to a store and finding out a brand-new book exists is just the coolest thing. The only thing that could make it better… is if it was ROM!” said Kirkman via press release. “ROM is such an iconic character with a rich history spanning decades. He’s been a constant request for the Energon Universe. Getting to develop him for the Energon Universe alongside my pal Lorenzo De Felici was an absolute blast and I can’t wait for fans to see our long-range plans for the character! ROM! WOO!!”
If you’re wondering where you’ll see ROM and his alien companion Carpet next? That’ll be in future issues of Void Rivals as the duo search for the villainous Dire Wraiths.
“I can finally say it—ROM HAS JOINED THE ENERGON UNIVERSE!” added Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. “And will we see him again? You’ll have to read Void Rivals #33 to find out!”
That’s not the only surprise inside the blind bags, though it’s the biggest one. You can also get M.A.S.K. Origins #1, “reprinting and collecting the first appearances of M.A.S.K. & V.E.N.O.M. in the Energon Universe.” And just like how some copies of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1 were actually the second issue, so too with M.A.S.K. #2 popping up in some blind bags for the first issue.
