As teased yesterday by Marvel, Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto are relaunching The Avengers with a new number one issue in the wake of Avengers: Armageddon. And that lineup? Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and “an all-new hero set to make their explosive debut soon,” which come on, it’s David Colton, aka the Captain America of the 2000s, aka Super Dave (not his actual hero name).
“It’s obviously a massive honor getting to write the world’s greatest super hero team!” Zdarsky said via press release. “And after what happens in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, this lineup is angry as hell and ready to avenge. AVENGERS is a book that should lead the Marvel Universe, where big things happen and surprises keep hitting,” he explained. “That’s what Marco and I are doing with every issue and I can’t wait for people to fall in love with these gorgeous pages.”
Said Checchetto, “Here we go again. Chip and I, assembled. We had a blast on Daredevil, and since wrapping up Ultimate Spider-Man, I’m thrilled there was an opportunity to do something new with him. It’s in moments like these where Chip’s utter madness comes through, and the result is right before your eyes. I love this team. It’s going to be great to see these characters interact with one another and see how they untangle themselves from the situations we’re going to throw them into.”

If you’re a little lost here, Avengers: Armageddon is the new five-issue event launching next week (June 10), and will find Red Hulk taking over Latveria and fighting the rest of the world for control. Somehow in the mix are David Colton and Wolverine, and Marvel has been teasing that this new Avengers title will be the biggest shakeup since Avengers: Disassembled.
…And I guess that’s technically accurate, because the team that came out of that — called the New Avengers — is very similar to this team. New Avengers #1 introduced an “out of the wreckage” team that at various points included Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Wolverine, as well as Spider-Woman, Captain America, and Sentry. Also Foggy Nelson. Where’s Foggy on this new team, Zdarsky loves Foggy.
Sure enough, this new book will feature True Believers Blind Bags featuring exclusive and sketch variants. Avengers #1 will hit stores on November 4, 2026.
