‘TaleSpin’ Comics Take Flight From Dynamite

Life might be a hurricane in Duckburg, but you’re gonna have to bear and grin it now that Dynamite has announced a new, ongoing series based on TaleSpin.

Written by Amanda Deibert with art by Carlo Lauro, aka the team that helped launch Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck, the new series crafts new adventures for the classic Disney Afternoon series.

“I am so thrilled to be once again teaming up with the incredible Carlo Laura as we get to play in the world of beloved Disney Afternoon cartoons and take things to new heights!,” said Deibert via press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Pun very much intended.”

If you’re not familiar, unlike the duck-obsessed rest of the Disney Afternoon, TaleSpin is a reimagining of the Jungle Book characters, now running an air cargo business and fighting sky pirates. Here’s the official synopsis:

Higher For Hire is… well, hired… to bring in Cape Suzette’s newest resident: Skye Ryder. But the job’s interrupted by air pirates led by the dastardly Don Karnage! Can Baloo and Kit shake the pirates and get their mysterious passenger to safety, or is it curtains for the pilots of the Sea Duck?! Fans will have to find out by jumping onboard this high-flyin’ adventure series soaring this summer.

Alongside the content of the book, TaleSpin #1 will also have — get this — covers, and won’t just be a loose collection of pages dumped on the floor of your local comic shop. Those covers will be by Lauro, Cat Staggs (who coincidentally is married to Deibert), and will also sport your now requisite mystery blind bag.

TaleSpin #1 will spin it into stores this August.
