‘New Titans’ Shocker: Static Joins The Team In Issue #38

Here’s a shocker: DC Comics‘ Static, aka Virgil Hawkins, is officially joining the New Titans with issue #38, after a prelude story in New Titans #37. And okay, fine, this isn’t so shocking, I just wanted to go for a “Static Shock” pun. Sue me. I dare you! Call your lawyers! I’ll take this pun all the way to the Supreme Court!

Written by Tate Brombal with art by Sami Basri, the storyline follows up on Static joining the DC Universe proper in DC K.O.: The Kids Are All Fight special, and the New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident, which realigned the history of the Milestone Universe with the DC Universe.

Per PR from DC, “New Titans #38 follows Static as his path intersects with that of Jon Kent, a.k.a. Superman, at Mount Titans, just as an emissary from Wonder Girl’s tribe arrives seeking Yara Flor’s help against a rising force in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil. As the Titans prepare for their first major mission, Static steps into a team grappling with internal tensions and a threat powerful enough to challenge even their combined abilities.

“With a new crisis rising in the Amazon and the Titans pushed to their limits, Static’s arrival marks the spark that will drive the team into its most challenging mission yet. His return sets the stage for a high-stakes arc that reshapes the Titans’ path and reintroduces one of DC’s most electrifying heroes to the center of the action.”

Before that, though, New Titans #37 will feature a four-page prelude that bridges the gap between the DC K.O. special and the next issue of New Titans, as Static reunites with Jon Kent. And if you’re worried this is just a guest star turn, the publisher also teases that “Static becomes a key force in the story that will carry the series through the end of the year.”

This, by the way, is not the first time this has all happened… After the original end of the Milestone Universe, Static became a part of the Teen Titans starting with 2009’s Terror Titans #4. To quote Battlestar Galactica, “all this has happened before and all this will happen again.”

New Titans #38 will hit stores on August 19, 2026, with covers from Taurin Clarke, Dike Ruan, and Lucas Meyer. Also I looked into lawyer fees and never mind about the whole Supreme Court thing.
