Bad news for fans of good comic book shops: after closing down the Things From Another World website in 2025, Dark Horse has announced that all three physical retail locations will be closing, as well.
Three locations exist for the comic book chain, including two in Oregon, which will close in June, and one in California at Universal Studios, which will close in September.
“This was not an easy decision, and we do not take lightly the impact it has on the people directly affected,” Dark Horse said in a statement. “To the employees whose jobs will be affected by this closure, we are deeply grateful for your dedication, your hard work, and the care you brought to your roles every day. We are committed to supporting the affected employees through this transition. We are working to ensure that this process is handled with the care and respect it warrants.”
In addition to closing the stores, Dark Horse is also realigning their priorities as Dark Horse Entertainment to focus on “our commitment to our writers, artists, and storytellers who define the Dark Horse voice, ensuring they have the development support, creative partnerships, and resources to bring their visions to life across film and television.”
And in addition, they’re opening a Dark Horse Games initiative, which will focus on “interactive entertainment.”
While not mentioned in the release, it’s hard not to see this as a direct result of Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson exiting the company back in March. He was replaced by Dark Horse’s owners, Embracer, with gaming exec Jay Komas, who is now interim CEO of the company.
