New York Comic Con Takes Heat For Raising Ticket Prices:
In a news story that may put my long-standing press pass to New York Comic Con in jeopardy, the 20th anniversary of the annual ReedPop convention is under fire from fans lamenting a jump in pass prices.
The short version? VIP tickets now cost almost a thousand dollars, a nearly $200 jump from the price for the almost-all-access pass in 2025. However, as The Beat effectively breaks down, the jump isn’t quite as big as fans are reacting to. That’s because this year, ReedPop included taxes and fees in the listed price — something they’ve been legally required to do since 2022, but have not until this year.
While the VIP pass has still jumped 13% in price from 2025, the biggest leaps with taxes and fees built in are the Saturday one-day pass, which has gone up over 20% in price from last year, and the Sunday Kids ticket which jumped a massive 35% in price to nearly $50. And not to loop back to the VIP ticket, but it cost $625 including taxes and fees two years ago, so has increased a not-insignificant 58.5% in price in two short years.
The cynical way of looking at this is that, well, ReedPop can charge this because people will come. Despite the prominence of San Diego Comic-Con, based purely on actual ticket sales New York Comic Con is the biggest convention in the United States. The less cynical take is that fees for running a convention, like everything else in America, have jumped exponentially in the past few years thanks to a variety of factors. And it almost may be basic crowd control… Charging more means you may get less people to pack the con floor, but make more money in the long run.
Will this impact the final count of attendees in 2026? Maybe where kids are concerned. When it comes to VIPs, my guess is griping aside: probably not.
Marvel To Publish New Indiana Jones Collections:
Back in the 1980s, Marvel published a series of comics based on the Indiana Jones movies. And now, those classic books are coming together in two deluxe hardcovers: Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures, Book 1 and 2.
The over-sized collections will feature, per a press release from Marvel, “leatherette binding, debossed cover designs and ribbon bookmarks,” and absolutely no snakes. More importantly they’ll feature work by David Michelinie, Walt Simonson, John Byrne, John Buscema and more, as they collect the comic adaptations of “Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, as well as the entire run of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones.”
Both volumes will hit stores on September 30, 2026.
Mark Waid And Chris Samnee Back On Batman And Robin:
Writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee are back at it again for DC Comics with Batman & Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos, a new 12-issue series spinning off the critically acclaimed Batman & Robin: Year One.
So, what’s it about? Per DC, while Batman and Robin are getting along swimmingly, enter Catwoman and a character who may or may not be her own sidekick. This naturally throws a wrench in the budding friendship/mentorship between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, while kids are going wild in the streets.
Sounds neat, I’m in! Batman & Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos #1 hits stores on August 12, 2026.
