DC Comics Reveals Next Level: One Shot:
When writer Gerry Duggan was on our live podcast last week, he indicated there was more to come from him at DC after his Tales From The Green Lantern Corps special. Well, now we know what at least one of those things is… Or should we say one-shot of those things is, as he and artist Fernando Blanco will take on Next Level: One Shot, a 48-page special from DC Comics.
In the special, per a press release from DC, Deadshot “uncovers a conspiracy that will change everything. Duggan and Blanco tell the tale of a job gone sideways, a father and his daughter, and a web of super-powered lies that stretches throughout the entire DC Next Level cast of characters…and points in the direction of war on the horizon. This epic issue tells you everything you need to know about what’s next for Next Level…if you survive the experience.”
Curiously, the synopsis doesn’t say whether this at all ties into the Next Level title Deathstroke: The Terminator, which featured an appearance by Deadshot at the end of issue two. It also seems to indicate that this will tie into a bigger story being seeded through Act II of the “All In” initiative, which is what Next Level is part of… Similar, perhaps to the Absolute Evil for the Absolute Universe, versus the fun character study of Guy Gardner and John Stewart Duggan did in the Green Lantern Corps one-shot.
Next Level: One Shot #1 will hit stores on August 19, 2026.
Dynamite’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer Gets Extra Pages:
If there’s one thing we all like, it’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If there are two things? It’s saving money, and now you can get Dynamite’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 with even more pages, for the same low price of $4.99.
What’s that, you say? $4.99? For a whole comic? It’s true! And instead of a regular sized comic, this Deluxe Edition comes with all the fixins: staples, a cover — multiple actually — and pages on the inside. But not just any pages… Lots of pages. Specifically, while originally solicited for a normal sized comic, the first issue will now contain 35 pages of story, and run 48 pages total. But since the issue was originally solicited for less pages, it’ll stay at the originally solicited price.
Dynamite is promising “a massive surprise we swear not to spoil until after the first issue hits your stores and customers’ hands!” You can find out what that is when Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 hits stores on July 22, 2026, now with more pages than usual.
Marvel Enters Tomb Of Apocalypse:
Get ready for the weirdest team-up of the century as Jubilee and Apocalypse are working together (sort of) in the new Marvel miniseries Tomb of Apocalypse.
Written by Ashley Allen with art by Domenico Carbone, the five-issue series will find a mysterious device crashing near the X-Men’s New Orleans base, with Jubilee and Wolverine activating the device and ending up — where else — the Tomb of Apocalypse. Together, they’ll discover Apocalypse’s sinister plans, as well as two friends: Rictor and Shatterstar.
Also, to be clear, Apocalypse isn’t dead, he’s just on Mars. So why does he have a tomb? We’ll find out when Tomb of Apocalypse #1 hits stores on August 26, 2026.
