Marvel Reveals First Three Titles In Midnight Line Of Comics:
Last week, Marvel teased their new publishing line Midnight, and while speculation focused on Midnight Sons characters… Not so! Instead, the new titles in the Midnight Universe will be Midnight X-Men, Midnight Fantastic Four, and Midnight Spider-Man, all set in a new universe with its own continuity and lore where “anything can happen.”
The three books will feature Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte on Midnight X-Men, Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker on Midnight Fantastic Four, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Scie Tronc on Midnight Spider-Man.
So what are they about? Midnight X-Men focuses on a war between the vampire and mutant empires, with the unturned caught in the crossfire. Midnight Fantastic Four will channel cosmic horror in a tale of an “obsessive scientist” who discovers secrets about the universe that leaves him and three others “warped in strange and horrifying ways.” And Midnight Spider-Man finds Peter Parker transformed into a “hideous spider hybrid” thanks to Oscorp’s pursuit of eternal life, followed by more hideous “human-animal hybrids.”
Marvel teases that more titles are coming in the line, but it’ll all kick off with Midnight X-Men #1 on August 5, followed by Midnight Fantastic Four #1 in September and Midnight Spider-Man #1 in October.
NYC Street Becomes Jack Kirby Way:
In an event a long time coming, the corner of Essex Street and Delancey Street in the Lower East Side of New York City has been renamed Jack Kirby Way in a ceremony held on Monday, May 11.
Per The Daily News, the event was attended by the grandchildren of the co-creator of Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor, and more, as well as City Council members and fans in costume. Fellow legend Jim Steranko also spoke at the event, which will officially and permanently co-name the street corner, after a brief one-day renaming occurred last year as a promotional stunt for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Kirby is intrinsically tied to the Lower East Side of New York, where he grew up, and The Thing’s Yancy Street is heavily inspired by Delancey Street. Tying into the street name reveal, the nearby American Jewish Historical Society is holding an exhibit titled “The Jack Kirby Way: How a boy from the Lower East Side became the ‘King of Comics.’” until November 26.
If you’re in New York and want to check out the street sign, it’s right on the corner by a massive, two-story tall McDonald’s, just the way Jack Kirby would have wanted.
Casanova Gets A Compendium From Image Comics:
Hot on the heels of big Hollywood casting news for Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky’s beloved series Sex Criminals — that would be Imogen Poots and John Reynolds taking the leads, with Nia DaCosta directing the first two episodes — another beloved Fraction book is getting a bump from Image Comics: Casanova, with art by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, will get a massive compendium paperback.
Collecting the first four story arcs in the series, the trade focuses on Casanova Quinn, a man who is “ripped out of spacetime, betrays everyone he ever loved, and destroys whole worlds in his wake. But it’s okay. Everything’s going to be okay. Casanova: destroying multiverses before destroying multiverses was cool.”
Casanova Compendium hits stores on June 24.
