Is [SPOILER] Dead On ‘The Boys’ Season 5? Latest Episode Features Biggest Character Death Yet

Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Tomer Capone (Frenchie)

Nothing against anyone else who has bought the farm on the final season of The Boys, but this week’s penultimate episode of the series, “The Frenchman, The Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” featured the biggest character death yet. You can probably narrow it down to three suspects given the episode title, but spoilers past this point, Frenchie (Tomer Capone) was killed in the closing moments of the episode, dying in Kimiko’s (Karen Fukuhara).

To give a little bit of context, Frenchie spends all episode trying to give Kimiko the same powers as Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), aka the ability to irradiate the Compound V out of a Supe’s blood. Why? So they can depower the now near immortal Homelander (Antony Starr), and either straight up kill him, or infect him with the Supe virus and kill him that way. Thanks to the eventual help of Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), Frenchie is probably able to crack the code and give Kimiko one last dose of Uranium irradiation in order to power her up… Just as Homelander arrives at their grade school hideout, having tracked down Sage.

With Kimiko still recovering, Frenchie hides her and Sage in an air duct made of zinc, I guess, because Homelander can’t see through zinc. Just when the baddie is about to discover the hiding spot, Frenchie makes a tiny tap — which summons Homelander into the Uranium chamber. Frenchie opens the Uranium, mildly hurting the souped up Homelander but giving Frenchie a likely lethal dose.

Then we cut to Homelander flying off, and Kimiko and Sage exiting their hiding spot. They see a trail of blood, with Frenchie at the end of it… Clearly Homelander used his heat vision to laser Frenchie lethally (why he didn’t just cut him in half or smash his head, who knows, perhaps to be cruel or send a message), and he’s dragged himself to a central area.

Frenchie calls Kimiko “Mon coeur,” aka French for “my heart,” and asks is she’s alright. Crying, she says that he saved her — meaning from Homelander — but Frenchie disagrees. “No, mon coeur. You saved me,” he says, clearly meaning how his love for her taught up to hope for a future again, rather than be caught up in the darkness of his past. Kimiko sobs, and begs him not to leave her.

“Never,” Frenchie says. “Je t’aime, from the very start.”

They kiss, and Frenchie dies, just as Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Butcher (Karl Urban) return, too late to save anyone. “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” plays over the closing credits as we sit with the knowledge of Frenchie’s sacrifice.

So Is Frenchie Dead On The Boys? Has Tomer Capone Left The Series?

Tomer Capone as Frenchie in The Boys Season 4

Full disclosure, I have not seen the finale so I can’t say for certain whether Frenchie will get an infusion of — spitballing here — Compound Z, a thing I just made up, which turns you into a zombie, and will come back to life as Zombi-Frenchie. It’s also possible we could see Frenchie in a flashback, or dream sequence in some way.

But far more likely, this climactic death scene is permanent, and helps motivate our group to take whatever action necessary to stop Homelander’s fascist rule of America (and potentially the world). Certainly, it’ll motivate Kimiko to go all out, and one would think Frenchie’s sacrifice will motivate the rest of The Boys as well. It also could tie into Sage’s slow realization that love is more powerful than knowledge, having witnessed first hand what someone will do for the love of another person.

But as for the actual logistics here: yes, Frenchie is dead; Tomer Capone has more than likely exited the series before the final hour; and despite what you might see later today or over the next week on TikTok, I sincerely doubt this death had anything to do with Capone’s connection to the IDF. Basically, the character served his purpose… He recreated the Supe virus, he turned Kimiko into a living weapon, and serves as a rallying cry, making the fight with Homelander very personal in the finale.

So RIP, Frenchie. Here’s hoping you’re dancing in Heaven.
