DC’s ‘Kingdom Of Zod’ Two-Month Event Takes Over Superman Titles In August And September

They’ve been teasing this one for a long time, and it’s finally happening: this August and September DC’s Superman line of books will kneel before Zod with a two-month long event titled Kingdom of Zod.

Kicking off on August 12 in Supergirl #16, per PR rom the publisher, “a mysterious military coup dangerously destabilizes the Kryptonite Kingdom of El Caldero. Supergirl assembles her own strike team—a Super-Force including Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Tomorrow Man, Steel, and more—to infiltrate the occupied territory. Fresh off the epic Reign of the Superboys storyline, Kara’s Superboy crew is shocked to discover this conquering force is Kryptonian in origin…and deadly. That same day, Action Comics #1101 sees Superman crash-land back into the present day after the events of Action Comics #1100 (no spoilers here!), only to find himself immediately drawn into the escalating conflict.”

To take a little step back, after the events of the 2024 limited series Kneel Before Zod, the former General found his powers missing — and readers discovered that thanks (probably) to the events of Absolute Power, they had moved over to Lois Lane, transforming her into Superwoman. Those powers have popped on and off, and in the meantime Superman has been told by a skinny Doomsday from the future called Time Trapper that an enormous threat is coming for him and his family that will lead devastation in it wake. That threat? Probably Zod.

While DC teases a “shocking twist” right at the beginning of the crossover, it “continues on August 19 in Superman Unlimited #16, where Zod reveals the true scope of his plan and unleashes a dangerous Kryptonite infection that spreads across the world. The first month of ‘Kingdom of Zod’ concludes on August 26 with Superman #41, as Superman, Supergirl, Superboy-Prime, and the Super-Family confront Zod in a battle that will reshape the future of the House of El!

“The story continues through September with chapters in Supergirl #17, Action Comics #1102, Superman Unlimited #17, and Superman #42, bringing the Kingdom of Zod arc to its explosive conclusion in a one-shot, Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special, on September 30.”

Sorry to quote all that instead of writing it through, but I don’t think I need to provide my own spin of a list of titles. I’m lazy, what can I say?

In addition to the books, good news, they won’t just be a pile of loose papers: they’ll also have covers. And in this case, Guillem March will provide a connecting cover for all four series in August, while Mark Spears will provide foil variant covers. Other variant covers (not seen below) will be by Noobovich, Stephanie Hans, Joe Quinones, Ariel Olivetti, Mike Choi, ACO, Taurin Clarke, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Christian Ward.
