DC Comics is still going strong as we enter May of 2026, with what some might call a light slate, but I would say is “curated.” Specifically, they’re curating “cool stuff.”
That includes the best-selling Absolute Universe line, of course, all of which is worth your time but we had to be picky. There’s also a new Elseworlds title, an intriguing one-shot or two, and the continuation of a long-lost project that is shocking DC published at all (and shouts to them for doing it so well).
Want to know what to pick up from Detective Comics Comics this month? Read on for 10 picks, presented in chronological release order.
1. Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1

Release Date: May 6, 2026
Gerry Duggan and Matteo Lolli (alongside Laura Braga), the team from Deadpool, take on Guy Gardner for this one-shot. Will he get one-punched? Pick up the issue to find out! Frankly, this seems like the sort of thing that came out of “hey, this would be fun” rather than some publishing need; and I’m all for that.
2. DC x Sonic The Hedgehog: Metal Legion #1

Release Date: May 6, 2026
The first series mashing up Sonic and the Justice League was shocking amounts of fun, and it looks like this one, which does it again, will be no different.
3. Absolute Batman #20

Release Date: May 13, 2026
The biggest title in the comic book industry gets bigger with the introduction of five Robins in mech suits, because why not? Why not??
4. Barbara Gordon: Breakout #1

Release Date: May 13, 2026
The latest Next Level title is exceedingly high concept, with Babs sent to a Supermax prison and having to figure out how to break out without her toys or Bat-friends. It’s written by Mariko Tamaki with art by Amancay Nahuelpan, and that’s a great team! Can’t wait for this one.
5. Absolute Green Arrow #1

Release Date: May 20, 2026
Probably the most anticipated book of the month, Pornsak Pitchetshote and Rafael Albuquerque tell the tale of a serial killer taking revenge for the death of Oliver Queen, with Black Canary hot on his — or her — tail.
6. Sirens: Love Hurts #4

Release Date: May 20, 2026
This is the final issue of the four-issue series described as “Long Halloween for the girlies,” and while the story by Tini Howard has been — by turns — romantic and twisty, the real stand-out is Babs Tarr’s crackling designs for the Sirens. We’ll miss ’em once they’re gone, but these four issues killed it. More fashion-forward Gotham, please.
7. Absolute Wonder Woman #20

Release Date: May 27, 2026
Perhaps not the biggest selling Absolute Universe title, but definitely the best, this issue wraps up the arc pitting Diana against (and with) Zatanna and Zatara, as well as the Absolute Suicide Squad. A gorgeous book from front to back thanks to Hayden Sherman’s stunning art, this is one not to miss.
8. Batman #163

Release Date: May 27, 2026
Just running a skosh late, the final chapter of H2SH Part One finally hits this month, wrapping up the first half of the epic from Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. Yes, there’s more coming.
9. Swamp Thing 1989 #2

Release Date: May 27, 2026
It’s a minor miracle that this 30+ year lost title is being published at all, let alone with the care DC is bringing to it. And beyond the partially pencilled first issue, we’ve now got something entirely original and unexpected with issue two.
10. Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1

Release Date: May 27, 2026
The first of a new slate of Elseworlds titles, this one posits: what if Jor-El was sent to Earth instead of Kal-El, finally answering the age-old question of whether you can swaddle a grown man with a beard in baby blankets.
