This is Comic Book Club News for April 30, 2026.

Godzilla Destroys San Diego In New Comic Book From IDW:

Godzilla has already taken on Portland, Los Angeles, and Chicago to name a few, as part of IDW’s ongoing one-shots, Godzilla Vs. America. And now, the same day San Diego Comic-Con kicks off this year, they’ll release — what else — Godzilla Vs. San Diego.

Per The Beat, the issue will once again highlight local creators; this time, Stan Sakai, Dan Jurgens, and Greg and Fake, creators of the hit series Santos Sisters. And while there’s plenty to do in the city, including the zoo, and I’m sure other things I’m not going to bother to look up, the focus will be on the King of the Monsters attacking Comic-Con. That includes Hall H, cosplayers, and probably plenty of cheeky celebrity cameos.

Godzilla vs. San Diego features a main cover by Ron Lim, with a variant by Christian Ward, and will hit stores — and Comic-Con — on July 22, 2026.

Local Comic Shop Day Set For September:

We’re mere days away from Free Comic Book Day slash Comics Giveaway Day, but the calendar is already looking ahead to the next comic book holiday: Local Comic Shop Day, which has staked its claim for September 26.

Per ICv2, the annual event is organized by ComicsPRO, and while there are giveaways planned, the focus is much more on community events and smaller retailers. In particular, ComicsPRO is looking to have publishers provide less variant covers, more event materials to help promote comic shops as community gathering places.

In fact, of the 270 retailers who participated last year, not only did they report that sales were twice what they are on a usual Saturday, those who built community events on the day “had higher sales than those who did not.”

Participating publishers will be submitting proposals by June 2, so more on this as it develops.

Chew Team Reunites For Ghostbrawler:

Chew creators John Layman and Rob Guillory are back together on a new book called Ghostbrawler.

What’s it about? Here’s what Layman posted on BlueSky: “Boxer is killed in ring. Resuscitated. Now able to see ghosts. Now able to TOUCH ghosts. Starts business going to haunted houses, and beating the fuck out of ghosts. GHOSTBRAWLER. From the guys who did CHEW.”

While it seems likely that Layman and Guillory will bring this book to Image Comics, which previously published Chew, that’s TBA as of this recording.

When he appeared on our live show earlier this year, Layman teased that more Chew will be coming soon, as well. So when will Ghostbrawler hit? Before or after the Chew reunion? The Chewunion if you will? And does brawlin’ make him feel good? We’ll likely find out soon enough.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And when will Godzilla come to New York? What’s he afraid of, huh?
