DC Launches Contest To Design The Next Great Batman Villain

You — yes, you — could design the next great Batman villain, joining the ranks of Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and of course, Condiment King. That’s because the publisher is launching DC’s Building Bad Sweepstakes in conjunction with the launch of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. And yes, the new character will appear in September in the game — but will debut in the pages of DC’s comics.

The contest launches today, and runs until May 31, 2026, with the winner working with DC to “select character traits” for the villain, as well as having “a role in naming the new DC character.” Which likely means they’ll veto “Boaty McBoatface,” but you never know.

The eventual character will debut in Detective Comics #1113 in September, then appear in Batman #14 — and have that cameo as a LEGO version in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight “as part of post-launch downloadable content (DLC).” And finally, you’ll also get to see the character pop up in a DC GO! webcomic, which is “targeted for Batman Day (September 19, 2026).”

Want some legalese? Sure you do. First, you have to be 13 years or older, and a resident of the U.S., U.K., or Canada. Per DC,

“Fans can enter by filling out the form here for their chance to win! No purchase necessary. Official rules here.”

So get to it, folks. Me personally I’m pushing for “The Podcaster” but we’ll see what happens.
