This week’s episode of The Boys, titled “One-Shots,” is a total bloodbath, killing off multiple characters and guest stars in spectacular fashion. And with those multiple deaths, and a surprising focus on Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) dog Terror: does Terror die on The Boys?
Spoilers past this point, but no, Terror does not die on The Boys — at least not this week, and despite being put in some serious danger. Sorry, I know I’m supposed to make you read 300-500 words first before I say “no” because that’s how the internet works, but that “sucks.”
Anyway, probably part of the reason you might be wondering about this is because of what goes down in this week’s hour. As part of the Terror section, we get a pretty hilarious look inside Terror’s dreams, which mostly involve humping Homelander thanks to a ratty, disgusting Homelander doll the bulldog likes to hump IRL. As the rest of the team wonders how they can track down the immortality-granting V1, and whether they should release the Supe virus, Frenchie (Tomer Capone) is making chocolate soufflé for Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). After a close call earlier in the episode with Terror almost eating some chocolate, Frenchie makes a big mistake and throws his soufflé in the garbage… Which allows Terror to go to town.
Problem is, if you weren’t aware, chocolate is toxic for dogs, so he almost dies. While the team suggest charcoal, they don’t have any on hand. Hughie, instead, suggests hydrogen peroxide, which they do have on hand. They give it to Terror, he barfs up the chocolate, and lives to hump another day.
So hooray! At least this week, Terror is still alive, though we do have three episodes to go and the body-count is rising…
Does Terror Die In The Boys Comics?
Okay, so let’s be clear: the TV show The Boys has veered extremely far off from the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson the series is based on. While they could veer back for the finale, I’m very hesitant to suggest anything from the book will end up on screen in these final few episodes.
And that includes that Terror does die in the comics.
Specifically, after a tentative truce between Homelander and Butcher is struck, Butcher releases some info on Jack From Jupiter — the comic’s analogue for DC character Martian Manhunter — leading to Black Noir killing Terror in response. This leads to a cascade of events including Butcher murdering Jack From Jupiter, as you might imagine (I guess the comic isn’t that far off from the show), and Terror is dead for the rest of the run of the books.
Will something similar happen in the show? I mean, maybe. This season has brought back Terror in a big way, and spent a fair amount of time building up that the bulldog is Butcher’s connection to humanity. Killing the dog in the finale could be the thing that sends Butcher entirely off the rails. But for now, while Terror is dead in the books, he’s alive in the show. Let’s hang on to that for the moment.
