This is Comic Book Club News for April 28, 2026.
Gerry Conway Dead At 73:
Gerry Conway, the beloved writer of too many seminal comics to list (though we’ll attempt to do so below), has died at age 73.
The news comes via his long-time employer Marvel Comics, who shared that Conway had passed away on behalf of his family.
Along with co-creating The Punisher, Conway is likely best known for his work on the notorious Clone Saga, where he created Ben Reilly and the Jackal. However, a far more impactful tale for the publisher was writing the story “The Night Gwen Stacy Died” in The Amazing Spider-Man. He’s also credited with launching Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel, and pursuant to the recent DC/Marvel crossovers, is responsible for writing what is considered the first ever: Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
Born in Brooklyn in 1952, Conway published his first comic book work at age 16 for DC Comics, before taking over Amazing Spider-Man from Stan Lee at the ripe old age of 19. A few years later he returned to DC to create Power Girl, then went back to Marvel where he was briefly made Editor-in-Chief, then continued to write for the publisher on titles ranging from The Avengers to Iron Man and everything in between.
Other characters either co-created or introduced by Conway over the years include Firestorm, Steel, Vibe, Gypsy, Killer Croc, Jason Todd, and many more.
More recently, in 2020 Conway spoke out about the misappropriation of The Punisher emblem, helping launch a drive to take back the symbol during the prime of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Conway was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2022, but was previously declared cancer-free after several surgeries. He is survived by his wife, Laura Conway. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
The Oddly Pedestrian Life Of Christopher Chaos Spins Off Into Adam Frankenstein One-Shot:
For far too long — six months, to be precise — our glorious nation has been deprived of a sexy gay Frankenstein adaptation. Now, finally, our drought is over as Tate Brombal and Soo Lee will adapt Mary Shelley’s novel as The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein for Dark Horse Comics.
This will be through the lens of Tiny Onion’s The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, which has presented an older version of the monstrous character. This new 56-page one-shot will also feature an eight-page “Monsters in Love” short story, and will hit stores on August 26, 2026. It will also be collected in a paperback edition alongside The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos #7 and #8, which features another side story about Adam Frankenstein. Also titled The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein, that trade will run 184 pages, and will hit shops on December 15, 2026.
Predator Takes On Planet Of The Apes In New Marvel Comic:
You’ll want to get your stinkin’ paws on this one: Marvel has announced Predator Vs. The Planet of the Apes, a new five issue miniseries written by Greg Pak with art by Alan Robinson that jams two franchises together to find out if apes bleed. And if they bleed, we can kill them.
In the new series, a human astronaut named Arch finds herself stuck on the planet of the apes, which — spoiler — is Earth the whole time. Meanwhile, they’re all being hunted by the Yautja. Yuh-oh!
Predator vs. The Planet of the Apes #1 hits stores on July 29.
