Doctor Doom gets another miniseries.
This is Comic Book Club News for April 23, 2026.
Skeletor’s Origin Revealed In New Comic Book Series:
Ever since Masters of the Universe first began, fans have wondered: how is Skeletor bones? Is he bones? What’s up with his bone face and muscle body? And now, we might find out in Masters of the Universe: Genesis, a new 12-issue comic book series that will reveal the origin of various characters throughout Eternia.
In the first three-issue arc written by Rich Douek with art by Gavin Smith, per a synopsis from Dark Horse, “Discover the origins of your favorite heroes and villains! In issue #1, we meet Skeletor—a power-hungry demon-mage determined to seize control of Castle Grayskull, conquer Eternia, and become Master of the Universe!”
Further arcs will feature stories by Cavan Scott, Nick Roche, John Harris Dunning, Giovanna La Pietra, Tiffany Smith, and more.

Pride of Baghdad Gets 20th Anniversary Reprint From Image:
Here’s something to be proud about: Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon’s Pride of Baghdad is turning 20 this year. And to celebrate, Image Comics will release a new hardcover edition of the book.
Inspired in part by a true story, per PR, “Pride of Baghdad is a provocative, visually spectacular graphic novel that follows four lions who escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during the American invasion of Iraq.”
Said Vaughan via press release, “Twenty years later, I’m as proud of this book as I am depressed by how relevant it remains. Despite the harrowing subject matter, it was a pleasure to revisit the beautiful work of my collaborators: legendary letterer Todd Klein and astonishing artist/co-creator Niko Henrichon. We’re grateful to everyone at Image Comics for bringing this lovely new edition to life, and to all the readers who requested it, especially you cool English teachers who’ve shared our graphic novel with your students over the last two decades.”
Featuring a new hand-painted cover by Henrichon, some never-before-seen extras, and a new afterword by Vaughan, the former DC Vertigo book will hit comic book shops on September 23, and bookstores on October 20.
Doctor Doom Gets Another Miniseries:
Doctor Doom is having a moment, and now he’ll have five of them thanks to the one-shot series Challenges of Doom from Marvel Comics.
Written by Al Ewing, each issue will have a different artist, starting with Mike Henderson on July’s Challenges of Doom: Mr. Fantastic. That will be followed by issues focusing on Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Magneto, Namor, and Doom’s greatest enemy, “armor chafe.”
Executive Editor Tom Brevoort explained via press release, “CHALLENGES OF DOOM will pit the Lord of Latveria against some of the prime movers of the Marvel Universe as a way of illuminating different facets of Doom’s power, personality, intellect and skill. Through them, you’ll get a full picture of just why Doom is the greatest of all Marvel’s villains.”
Challenges of Doom: Mr. Fantastic #1 hits stores on July 1, 2026.
