Dark Horse To End America’s Six-Month-Long Sexy Gay Frankenstein Adaptation Drought With ‘The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein’

For far too long (say, the past six months), our glorious nation has been deprived of a sexy gay Frankenstein adaptation. Now, finally, our great drought is over as Tate Brombal and Soo Lee will adapt Mary Shelley’s novel as The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein for Dark Horse Comics.

“Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is one of my favorite novels, so to have this opportunity to adapt her groundbreaking story with our own Christopher Chaos twist is monumental for me,” said Brombal via press release. “This is one of the most personal comics I’ve ever written and to do it alongside Soo, Patricio, Aditya, and the entire Tiny Onion crew just feels incredible. It’s tragic, surprising, and full of heart. This Frankenstein is familiar but unlike any adaptation you’ve seen before.”

As Brombal notes, this will be through the lens of The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos, which has presented an older version of the monstrous character. This new 56-page one-shot will include colors by Patricio Delpeche, letters by Aditya Bidikar, and feature covers by David Talaski, Filipe Andrade, and Fernando Blanco. It will also feature an eight-page “Monsters in Love” short by Mark Bouchard, Naomi Franq, Héctor Barros and Aditya Bidikar, presented as a flip book with a cover by Kendra Wells.

While The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein will hit stores on August 26, 2026, it will also be collected, per PR, “in a paperback edition alongside The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos #7 and #8, which features another side story about Adam Frankenstein. Also titled The Perfectly Monstrous Life of Adam Frankenstein, that trade will run 184 pages, and will hit shops on December 15, 2026.
