Today in enigmatic teasers, Marvel is getting prepped to launch Queen in Black, their Venom-powered crossover, and Avengers: Armageddon, their big summer event. But they’re also prepping what looks to be an X-Men-focused event called DNX. But what is DNX?
While the publisher is promising more news next week, the book comes from Jed MacKay and Federico Vincentini, and hits stores in September. Also? The teaser image from Vincentini shows off a sort-of X-Men hazmat logo, the catchphrase “Evolution Is Contagious,” and most tellingly, Cyclops versus White Beast.
Pure speculation at this point, but if you haven’t been following X-Men, MacKay has been weaving a story of The Beast — the evil one who is leading an organization called 3K — discovering there’s a virus that turns everyone into mutants that goes very wrong in the future of the Age of Revelation event. He’s vowed to create the virus in the present, while Cyclops and his team of X-Men want to stop him.
Putting those puzzle pieces together, it seems likely that the virus is created and gets out, possibly leading to some new mutants, as well as a lot of deaths. Think Contagion meets the X-Men, and that’s my current best guess as to what’s going on here. It’s also a riff on “DNA” which you could probably figure out for yourself.
You can check out the text and teaser image sent out by Marvel below and speculate.
