Marvel Reveals The New “Hero” Who Causes ‘Armageddon’

Avengers: Armageddon is a weirdly mysterious event for Marvel, given it’s coming in a few short months. We know it kicks off with Red Hulk taking over Latveria, and fighting all the heroes. We also know it’ll be written by Chip Zdarsky. And now we know that as of July’s Armageddon #2, a new “hero” will arrive who wrecks everything.

“We’ve been building to this moment for well over a year, with a new character who will truly unsettle the world,” Zdarsky said via press release. “I’m delighted at the devastation that follows. Is that weird?”

So who is this hero who is “coming to the frontlines with power that outmatches both sides of the conflict”? Smart money says it’s David Colton, the Captain America of the 2000s who was introduced in the pages of Zdarsky’s Captain America, and is now in Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon. It also seems likely based on clues in context that the conflicted Colton gets the powers of Captain Marvel (the Mar-Vell version) from the Ultimate Universe, via an Origin Box.
