Daredevil #1 is in stores today from Marvel. And while the publisher has revealed the issue has already sold 300,000 copies*, they’re looking to go above and beyond. That’s because their True Believer Blind Bags may contain covers signed by Jon Bernthal (who plays The Punisher on TV), Charlie Cox (who plays Daredevil on TV), or a sketch by Frank Miller (who plays Frank Miller on TV). In addition, some signed Cox covers will feature sketches by Alex Maleev.
(*Requisite note here that Daredevil #1 has sold 300,000 copies to comic book shops, so this particular reveal is likely to make sure those Blind Bags retailers ponied up for actually make their way out of shops. Or at least to Whatnot streams and whatever.)
As for the covers, to offer some unsolicited commentary:
- Jon Bernthal putting a cute little skull next to his signature is adorable.
- I’m not quite sure how I feel about Charlie Cox signing an Alex Maleev sketch? But whatever, I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating crackers.
- I will continue to be in the vocal minority of people who thinks these late period Frank Miller covers are Good, Actually, as long as they’re not colored. The raw sketches are interesting. Once they get colored the whole thing flattens out and looks weird. Is it Prime Time Miller? No. Is it something different that, if it wasn’t Miller fans might be more into? I’d say “yes.”
