Ever since the X-Men’s Krakoa era, the Hellfire Gala has been a big event. Last year, there was a Hellfire Vigil, mourning the end of Krakoa. But fashion sells, so Marvel is trucking on with another one-shot this year… And someone is gonna die in the pages of X-Men: The Hellfire Murder #1.
Written by Jed MacKay, Gail Simone, Eve L. Ewing, Saladin Ahmed, and Erica Schultz, with art by Tony Daniel, Luciano Vecchio, Federica Mancin and more, the book also features new designs by Vecchio (which you can see below).
“Doing Hellfire Gala designs is always a pleasure,” Vecchio said. “This time around, it’s a masquerade, so the challenge was to come up with looks that divert from each character’s classic iconography to reflect their mask’s theme. The dress code is a callback to classic Hellfire Club attire, so there’s 18th-century fashion mixed with corsets and leather gear, but mixing up the gendering of those elements, resulting in something elegant and sexy.”
…But you’re probably wondering about the murder. Based on the cover, it seems like “not Wolverine.” I can also definitively identify Kitty Pryde, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, Gambit and Psylocke. The rest is up to you. Hey, Kevin Feige came to one of these, maybe they’re killing Kevin Feige.
