‘Energon Universe Special 2026’ Covers Reveal Some Big, Big Secrets

The Energon Universe Special 2026 is coming to Free Comic Book Day for, well, free, teasing upcoming events in the world of Skybound’s blockbuster franchise. But in case you miss it on May 2, it’ll also hit comic book stores on May 6 — for purchase — with a slew of covers. And those covers have some pretty intriguing teases.

Inside the book is the introduction of M.A.S.K. by Dan Watters and Pye Parr, as well as tales of Transformers, G.I. Joe and Void Rivals. Those will be by Robert Kirkman, Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Conor Hughes.

And while the FCBD Special and the for-sale issue will have the same interior pages, the covers will feature Howard Porter & Romulo Fajardo Jr., Jason Howard, Conor Hughes and Cedric Poulat.

“The release of the Energon Universe Special is an exciting annual event in the E.U.,” said Executive Editor Ben Abernathy via press release. “We bring the best talent together to tell exciting short stories that help seed the future of the Energon Universe…and the stories get more exciting each year!” 

But more on those covers! One is the big reveal that baddie Zartan is the guy secretly running G.I. Joe, recently revealed in the pages of that title. We’ve also got one of the Void Rivals guys (I think), and two M.A.S.K. covers. But for my money the most intriguing is the lady with the red sword who seems to be tracking Transformers. Those more tuned in than I will potentially know who she is. Me? I’m just eager to read the book and find out.
