Get ready to level up as Top Shelf has announced 13 Demons Dead, a new graphic novel from video game writer/director Adam Tierney, with art by Saspy.
In the new book, a teen girl has one year to defeat 13 invisible demons, all while trying not to flunk out of high school. The black-and-white, manga inspired book finds her juggling a supernatural legacy as well as homework, bullies, and family life.
“I’ve been a diehard comic book fan since I first learned to read. Throughout my career as a writer, I’ve worked in video games (LOTS of video games), TV shows, children’s books, even music, but I’ve never had the opportunity to create my own comic book until now,” said Tierney via press release. “13 Demons Dead combines everything I love writing about—horror, humor, demons, high school, bullies, and heartbreak—into a wild, 250-page graphic novel adventure. I’m so excited to be teaming with IDW Publishing and the incredibly talented Saspy on this book!”
Added Saspy, “13 Demons Dead is really close to my heart and I’m so happy I got to draw Ev’s story. I saw a lot of myself in her, being calm by nature but wild within, having to face things way bigger than us, despite our young age. Thanks to Adam and the whole IDW team for this opportunity! I hope readers will love her as much as I did!”
13 Demons Dead hits stores on August 4, 2026. Check out the synopsis and cover below:
Fourteen-year-old Everly “Ev” Espada was walking home one night when she spotted her favorite teacher, Father Serrano, suspended in midair, choking and being ripped apart by something she couldn’t see. Acting on pure instinct, Ev swings a nearby pipe and shatters the illusion, exposing a monstrous demon in the middle of her school. With one lucky shot, the creature is dead. And so is Ev’s normal life. By killing one of Earth’s Thirteen Hidden Demons, Ev has unknowingly triggered an ancient covenant. She’s been marked as the latest demon hunter, and the remaining twelve demons are already coming for her. The rules are simple and merciless: slay all thirteen within one year… or they will return more powerful, more vicious, and utterly unstoppable.
