The wait is over: the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is finally here, showing off the fourth go-around for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and writte by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, alongside Holland, Zendaya returns as Michelle Jones and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Joining the main trio are Sadie Sink in a mystery role, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Tramell Tillman.
While we don’t get to see Sink’s character in the trailer (or at least, her face), and Tillman’s mystery role isn’t revealed either, we do get to see Spider-Man tangling with The Punisher, a tease that this may be a loose adaptation of the Spider-Man: The Other storyline that found Spider-Man dying and becoming… Something else… And even a scene of Spidey fighting red-clad ninjas. Could this movie perhaps finally pick up on the Ten Rings storyline from Cretton’s Shang-Chi?
Here’s the official synopsis of the movie, via Sony:
After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
