Ostensibly under a press release to show off new variant covers for Avengers: Armageddon #1, Marvel Comics has offered up a first look at the Comics Giveaway Day (aka, Free Comic Book Day by another name) issue of Armageddon/X-Men… And in a huge, breaking story, Red Hulk is not only wearing clothes, he also has a very, very silly mustache.
We’ll get to the variant covers in a second, but let’s talk about this preview, first. Take a look at the pages, and then come right back here for some ‘splainin:
Like Armageddon itself, the preview pages are by writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar. They follow up on Zdarsky’s current run on Captain America, as well as the Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon miniseries, and find Red Hulk, aka Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, taking over Latveria. It also seems based on the pages that Ross has taken control of the save point tech that Doctor Doom was using in One World Under Doom and Fantastic Four to essentially reset the timeline to take out Iron Man, Spider-Man, Reed Richards, and imprison a worse for the wear Captain America. In the final page, we’re also getting a Red Hulk riff on the evil future Hulk, The Maestro, featuring Ross in a tunic, a shaved head, and very wispy mustache.
