IDW Introduces New Video Podcasts, But In Audio Format

Video podcasts are all the rage right now, reinventing the talk show format on a union-free budget with no ethical or governmental guardrails. And now, IDW Publishing is getting in on the action with an innovative take on video podcasts that presents them… In audio. AudVids, if you will.

(Also they’re in video, too.)

Okay, slightly more seriously, under their new IDW Studios label, the company is launching two podcasts: Creator x Creator, and Superlatives. Both are produced by IDW’s Content Marketing Specialist Reina Strauss, and the former has its first episode live now on podcast platforms as well as YouTube, in the original video format, versus this new audio one. I said I was going to stop joking, sorry about that.

In Creator x Creator, two IDW creators battle to the death, with the survivor getting to write the next arc of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the dead creator having to claw their way out of hell to stop IDW’s CEO from delivering financial calls from inside his car. Seriously, no more jokes after this. That’s also a joke, there will be more jokes.

Creator x Creator is actually what it sounds like, with two creators talking about their process with no pesky hosts to get in their way. The first episode, which has sneakily been live for two days, features Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees creator Patrick Horvath chatting with More Weight‘s Ben Wickey for over an hour.

The second podcast, Superlatives, will debut on March 26 and features IDW editors going head-to-head about debates like, per PR, “best first issue, character death, crossover, or plot twist.” The debates are moderated by a third IDW editor who will pick a winner once the arguments are heard, with the first episode focusing on “Best First Issue.” In a weird coincidence, the best first issue is an IDW book??? Just kidding, I haven’t heard it yet. But probably, right?

“The comics industry is full of incredible voices, but too often the conversation happens behind closed doors. IDW Studios pulls back the curtain,” said Aub Driver, IDW’s VP of Marketing via a “text podcast” or TexPod, which some people call a press release. “CreatorXCreator dives into the creative process with the people who make this medium electric, while Superlatives leans into the fun, the rivalries, and the unexpected. IDW Studios is about giving insiders the mic and letting the audience in on the conversation.”
