Rediscover The Secret Of The Ooze As ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II’ Returns To Theaters

TMNT 2 Secret of the Ooze Crop

Back on March 22, 1991, audiences everywhere flocked to movie theaters for one purpose, and one purpose only: to discover the secret of the ooze. And now, 35 years later, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is headed back to theaters for one week only, with a brand new featurette featuring none other than TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman.

(Side note: I was going to make a joke about audiences flocking to see Silence of the Lambs, which was the number one movie for the year, but TMNT II actually ended the flick’s five-week reign at the box office, taking number one for three weeks in a row itself. People love lambs and turtles, it turns out!)

In select theaters from Friday, March 13 through Thursday, March 19, the Fathom Event presentation will include, per PR, “a newly restored 4K theatrical presentation, giving audiences the chance to experience the sequel with unprecedented clarity and scale on the big screen.” This is for the first time ever, by the way, so if you think you’ve experienced ooze at home… Think again!

The whole thing will be preceded by Eastman at his drawing desk, reflecting on “the legacy of the Turtles, the road to Secret of the Ooze, and the fandom that has kept Turtlemania alive for decades. The special segment plays only in theaters and is available exclusively as part of this anniversary event.”

Want to rediscover the secret of the ooze (is the secret “too delicious???”) all over again? Check your local theater for listings. And more importantly, experience the “Ninja Rap” by Vanilla Ice and Frank Miller, all over again, now in pristine sound. Go ninja, go ninja, go!
