Benjamin Percy, probably best known to readers of this site for his comic book work on everything from Deadpool to Punisher, has been working on a post-apocalyptic newspaper called The End Times, alongside none other than Stephen King. And now The End Times will become a full-length novel from Bad Hand Books. Even better? Proceeds will benefit the recovery efforts in Minneapolis.
“The End Times is a deeply dystopian story with concerning similarities to the threats that America faces today,” said Bad Hand Books publisher, Doug Murano via press release. “The series tackles misinformation and the vital role media presented in good faith has within a vulnerable population. It’s exciting to bring this important story to an even wider audience through a full-length novel in a time where we need stories like this more than ever.”
After a sold-out print run for the print newspaper, the novel will collect all the material in book format (not on newsprint), with an 8.5″ x 11″ trim size, as well as “exclusive material not included in the original serial.” In the book, set in an impossible-to-imagine future after a deadly pandemic, “Mary Poole finds meaning as a writer and editor when she revives an old printing press and begins publishing a small-town newspaper. But Mary soon discovers there are other, more sinister agendas at work as well. As new writers begin contributing to the newspaper, familiar names like Claudia Inez Bachman begin to have an even greater impact on the small town of North End – likely for the worst.“
As the book is set in Minnesota, and Percy is a Minnesota native, $1 from the sales of each book direct from the publisher will “go to benefit mutual aid efforts in Minneapolis as the community recovers from the horrific impacts of ICE saturation.”
The book is available for pre-order now, in advance of a 2027 release. If we all survive that long.
