Nathan Fillion Is Teasing A ‘Firefly’ Reunion, And It’s Probably On His Podcast

It’s been over 20 years since Firefly debuted, was canceled, came back with a movie, never had a sequel, many comics have come out… And fans are still aching for a full-on reunion. Meanwhile, over the past few days star Nathan Fillion has seemingly been teasing just that, with videos featuring him walking up to co-stars Gina Torres and Morena Baccarin, asking if it’s “time” and if “we’re doing this.” Time for what? A full-on Firefly reunion? Well… Probably not. In fact, it’s more than likely it’s an episode of Once We Were Spacemen, the podcast Fillion does with also Firefly star Alan Tudyk. Sorry!

The first video, posted three days ago on Fillion’s social media, featured him walking up to Torres in her trailer, mysteriously looking at the sky, asking “is it time,” Fillion nodding yes, etc. Certainly that seemed to indicate a possible return to the Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series, what with them not being able to take the sky from me in the theme song and whatnot.

Things got a little more confusing yesterday (February 26) when Fillion knocked on Baccarin’s door wearing his cop uniform for The Rookie, only to find her also in a cop uniform. She’s currently starring on CBS’ Sheriff County, hence the cop duo, but that seemed to imply perhaps a crossover with The Rookie, or a mini-Firefly reunion on The Rookie. Adding fuel to that fire, it was just announced that Dropout’s Game Changer will have a crossover episode with The Rookie, so the latter show is clearly in “stunt episode” mode.

…But there’s a pretty big tell that this is a podcast reunion. Specifically, Fillion’s Instagram posts are a collabo with Once We Were Spacemen podcast account on Instagram. And on TikTok, their account just started on February 13, and currently has four videos — two of which are the videos with Torres and Baccarin.

So yeah, expect a Firefly reunion to be coming to your earholes — as well as your requisite (sigh) video podcast clips, coming soon. Who else will be on this episode (or episodes)? Curiously, Tudyk and Fillion just hosted Summer Glau on February 18, and Sean Maher on February 4. Working backwards, Torres previously appeared back in November, while Jewel Staite was on their second episode, also in November. It’s not like they can’t appear a second time, but one wonders what form this podcast reunion (if that is indeed what it is) will take. Whatever it is, I am just a leaf on the wind, and will follow them anywhere. Gorram.
