I can show the world… Or at least, a brand-new comic book series from Dynamite based on the classic Disney movie Aladdin. Written by James III with art by Agnese Eterno, you’ll take a magic carpet ride with this one, I’ll tell you what.
“Writing Aladdin is an opportunity I don’t take lightly,” said writer James III via press release. “Not to be old, but the Aladdin VHS was one of the few tapes we owned growing up and we wore it out! I’d run around the house imitating Genie and Iago (for which I later won the 3rd grade talent show, thank you very much!) And my light-up Jafar staff was a prized possession. We’re doing our best to capture the flare of the original while telling new stories for today’s audience.”
In the new series set after the events of the movie, Aladdin is not yet married to Princess Jasmine, and he’s got Abu, the magic carpet and Genie by his side, as well. And that’s all we know! Good setup!
Covers for the first issue include J. Scott Campbell, Nicoletta Baldari, Natacha Bustos, a cartoon head by Eterno, and… Blind bags. They’ll include one of three limited editions of the issue, randomly selected.
Aladdin #1 hits stores in May.
