Bad news! Last night’s episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO, “The Morrow,” was the season finale. But if you’re worried you’ll never see Ser Duncan The Tall (Peter Claffey) and Aegon Targaryen, aka Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) again? Don’t worry, they’ll be back for more adorable Westeros adventures. But given the usual pace of shows these days, will Egg be taller than Dunk? When will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 premiere on HBO and HBO Max?
The GOOD news is that you won’t have to wait that long to head back to Westeros, or see Dunk and Egg again. Here’s everything you need to know about AKotSK Season 2, including premiere date, and what the season will likely be about, based on the novella by George R.R. Martin.
Has HBO Renewed A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms For Season 2?
Yep! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was thankfully renewed back in November of 2025, before Season 1 even premiered. That’s so they could get moving on AKotSK Season 2… And in fact, filming for Season 2 already started in December of 2025. So the show is well on its way to getting Season 2 out in a timely manner.
When Will A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Premiere On HBO And HBO Max?
HBO is usually pretty cagey about exact dates, with boss Casey Bloys avoiding questions about release dates until they’re sure. But as part of that renewal announcement, HBO assured fans they’ll be getting new seasons of Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice And Fire shows every year for the foreseeable future. That includes A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 and House of the Dragon Season 3 this year, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 in 2027, and House of the Dragon Season 4 — the final season, as it turns out — in 2028.
As for whether there will also be A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 3 in 2028 as well, that seems likely, but is as of yet unannounced… HBO would like to make the adventures of Dunk and Egg a yearly thing as long as they can, and the showrunner has even thrown out the idea of doing five seasons, taking a break so they can check in on them years later once Ansell is in his 20s, and then coming back even later to show what happens to Dunk and Egg at the end of their lives. That’s pretty ambitious, not least of which because thus far Martin has only written three novellas.
If you’re curious about a more exact premiere date for AKofSK Season 2, that hasn’t been announced yet — see about about Bloys — but we can speculate. Season 1 filmed from June through September of 2024, so about four months. It didn’t come out as you likely know until January of 2026, but that’s less about a complicated post-production process than HBO’s scheduling. If Season 2 films from December, 2025 through March of this year, there should be plenty of time for a January, 2027 premiere date.
The only hiccup there is whether HBO might want to move A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 later in the year, given they won’t have the double hit of House of the Dragon in 2027. As is, this is very much TBA, but just know Dunk and Egg will be back at it some time in 2027, for sure.
What Is A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 About? (Possible) Plot Spoilers:
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was based on Martin’s first story, “The Hedge Knight.” Shocker: the second season will be based on the second story, “The Sworn Sword.” Like with Season 1, expect plenty of changes and expansions to the story, but another spoiler warning here if you don’t want to know.
In “The Sworn Sword,” after heading off to teach Egg to be a squire — and of note, in the novella at least it seems like Maekar (Sam Spruell) actually have Egg permission, versus in the TV series, which may complicate things — Dunk has sworn his sword to an old knight named Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast. Along with a smelly knight named Ser Bennis the Brown, Dunk protects the dilapidated castle they live in and tiny village.
During a drought, Bennis goes a little too far with the denizens of a neighboring peasant, escalating a situation Dunk tries to help diffuse with the lord of their town, Lady Rohanne Webber of Coldmoat, who is also known as The Red Widow. Side note here: Red (Rowan Robinson), the prostitute who marries Raymun Fossoway (Shaun Thomas) in the TV show, was widely speculated to be the Red Widow. Confusingly, it turned out her real name was Rowan, which is different from Rohanne… Unless there are major changes to the story.
The broad strokes of the story, though, deal with Dunk finding out that being a good knight is perhaps more complicated than he thought, thanks to copious flashbacks and info about the Blackfyre Rebellion. That’s a big Westeros Civil War that was briefly touched on in Season 1, but becomes far more important in Season 2 (probably), and a major feature of the third novella, “The Mystery Knight,” and would likely be the basis for Season 3. Also Dunk falls in loooove.
When Will House of the Dragon Season 3 Premiere On HBO And HBO Max?
While you wait for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, there’s also House of the Dragon Season 3. That will premiere in June of 2026 (no exact date announced) and is expected to have eight episodes.
