You’ll love being a turtle for at least four more decades, as IDW has announced 40 years of TMNT will be celebrated — or shellebrated — with two books: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #300, as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Training Day.
First up is TMNT #300 which features — naturally — a blind bag program, including never-before-seen art from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, a J. Scott Campbell variant that hopefully has a sexy, weirdly elongated turtle, and more. It also, if you can believe it, has a story: “The City That Never Dies,” by current team Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II. In it, per PR, “Splinter has returned from the dead, but at what cost? This action-packed and emotional tale will have a massive impact on the future of IDW’s TMNT Universe and is a can’t-miss chapter for fans that will leave them feeling shell shocked.”
It’ll also feature a back-up story from Eastman and Tom Waltz, along with a roster of classic TMNT artists.
Probably the bigger news, though, is that the perennial best-seller The Last Ronin is getting a prequel one-shot. Coming from the whole original team, the oversized issue will “see the return of Michelangelo as the Last Ronin as he prepares Casey Marie Jones, the daughter of April O’Neil and Casey Jones, to continue the epic battle against the Foot Clan and, one day, lead the next generation of Ninja Turtles.”
“300 issues! Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II pulling out all the stops and kicking off an epic new TMNT storyline,” said Senior Group Editor Jake Thomas via press release “What more could fans want? Well, how about a double dose of Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, with a backup story in #300 exploring the legacy of the TMNT line with a murderers row of classic artists and a new one-shot installment of their Last Ronin saga with THE LAST RONIN: TRAINING DAY? This July, it’s never been a better time to be a TMNT fan, and we’re just getting started. 2026 is shaping up to be a banner year for the heroes in a half shell. 300 issues is just the beginning, the next 300 starts here, and I cannot wait to share it with fans.”
Added Josh Silverman, President, Global Products & Experiences, Paramount, “For more than 40 years, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been rooted in themes of brotherhood and resilience.
