13 Most Anticipated Comics From Other Publishers For January 2026

Here’s my monthly plea: someone help me come up with a better headline for this recurring article. I already count down the most anticipated comics from Marvel, DC and Image, and it feels unfair to lump other publishers under, well, “other publishers.” But until the time someone actually steps up and grows a pair, this is what it is.

So with that in mind, here are 13 comics we’re looking forward to in January 2026 from Dynamite, IDW, Oni Press, Dark Horse Comics and more, presented in chronological release order.

1. Godzilla #6

Release Date: January 7, 2026

The 2025 Man of the Year keeps things rolling in 2026 with the latest issue of Godzilla which… Kills Godzilla? He’ll be back in a new form after that, but it should be interesting to see what writer Tim Seeley and company have in store for the King of the Monsters.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town #1

Release Date: January 7, 2026

Torunn Grønbekk and artist Edu Menna reveal a highly anticipated new story set in the universe of Nightmare Before Christmas. If you’re curious to hear more, check out our chat with Grønbekk from Baltimore Comic Con.

3. Carmen Red Claw: Belly of the Beast #1

Release Date: January 7, 2026

There’s a lot coming out from Mike Mignola’s Hellboy Universe on a monthly basis, but this weird western is well worth your time. Featuring great art (and writing) from Rae Allen, Carmen Red Claw is an instantly iconic heroine with a strange companion who fits right into the overall U.

4. From the World of Minor Threats: Archie vs. Minor Threats #4

Release Date: January 7, 2026

The first Minor Threats crossover ever concludes with this issue. That’s pretty much it! So far the series has perfectly balanced Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum’s dark superhero/villain universe with the cheery Archie Comics universe, and it’ll be a blast to see how they wrap it all up.

5. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #5

Release Date: January 14, 2026

IDW is promising “The year’s most surprising cliffhanger is in this comic!” which seems like hyperbole since it’s, you know, January. But given how good Patrick Horvath’s horror sequel has been, we believe it.

6. Alice Forever After #1

Release Date: January 14, 2026

Dan Panosian’s dark, realistic take on Wonderland continues in this series, and while the sequel wasn’t quite as strong as the initial series, it’s still very much worth a look for his psychologically complicated takes on memory versus fantasy.

7. Gargoyles / Darkwing Duck #1

Release Date: January 14, 2026

Turns out, it’s actually the Gagroyles who are the terror who flap in the night.

8. Bloodland #1

Release Date: January 14, 2026

I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about this new title from Ignition Press, but it’s by B. Clay Moore and artist Mack Chater is about the US President dealing with the collapse of the government… And also a cabal of ancient vampires. Which sounds great? Good thing we don’t have a collapsing government and a cabal of bloodsucking monsters here in the real world, because that would be bad.

9. Star Trek: The Last Starship #4

Release Date: January 21, 2026

Every issue of this comic has been a banger, whether you are a Star Trek fan or not. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

10. Touched by a Demon #1

Release Date: January 21, 2026

From the excellent writer/artist Kristen Gudsnuk, the concept of this book is a bored demon sets up shop as a life coach for humans. Seems delightful!

11. Thundarr The Barbarian #1

Release Date: January 28, 2026

Jason Aaron takes on a non-Conan barbarian for the first time in comics. Full disclosure, I have no nostalgia for this property, but I do love a good Aaron barbarian story, so count me in.

12. ThunderCats: Lost In Time #1

Release Date: January 28, 2026

They’re going back in time. Or maybe forwards? Regardless, the team from ThunderCats: Lost add a time travel twist in this new iteration of the franchise.

13. Spirit of the Shadows #1

Release Date: January 28, 2026

A man dies, only to be reborn as the Spirit of the Shadows. Meanwhile, on Earth, his untimely demise continues to haunt those around him. The wildest, weirdest book of the year is here, and you don’t want to miss it.
